Majors Overview

Overview (Ages 11-12*)

The Major League Division is the intermediate level into traditional baseball in which kids pitch and Little League rules are fully enforced into game play.

The focus of Majors is to continue to develop fundamentally sound ballplayers while doing so in a positive and encouraging approach that aims to continue growing a love for the game.  In addition, in the spirit of competition, sportsmanship is greatly emphasized.

The goal of the program is to get kids to progress naturally and prepare them for the Junior Leagues.

Registration

Age Requirements*:  Major League Division is primarily for kids 11-12 as of April 30, 2012.

*Please note: 10 year-olds wishing to play Majors must be evaluated in the top 10% of eligible Majors participants.  Not all 11 year-olds may play in Majors, rather based on parent request or skill evaluation, players may be put on Minor League teams.

Team Formation

Teams will be comprised of no more than 12 players.

Evaluations are used to create more balance among teams.  If possible, Major teams will stay intact from year to year, only adding players when space on a team becomes available.  However the HAC Board reserves the right to make changes to teams in the event that team talent become imbalanced or if coaches are not disseminated equally.

"Play with" requests will not be honored.

Game Play

A progression of more moderate baseball skills will be taught at the Majors.  Whether in a game or practice, each player will also be encouraged to pitch and play catcher.

Little League rules are in force, including pitch counts, bunting, strikeouts and walks.  Continuous batting lineups will be used.  Umpires are used.

Regardless of outcome, coaches will focus on the things that players can control—showing up on time, running hard on the base paths, hustling onto and off the field, taking quality at-bats and giving their best effort.
